cream cheese – For the best creaminess (regular or low-fat), use a block of cream cheese. Spreadable cream cheese works but the dip can be too bland.

Salsa and Condiments – Use hot, mild or medium salsa depending on your preference. And stir in a packet or homemade taco seasoning. We like a little spice so I add jalapeños but you can leave them out if you prefer.

Cheese – Sharp cheddar has a bold flavor, but use what you have on hand. Try a pre-shredded Mexican cheese blend or pepper jack.

Variations – Vary the spices according to what you have on hand. Add fresh herbs like cilantro, parsley or oregano. If serving hot, top with sausage crumbles or ground beef.

How to Make Cream Cheese Salsa Dip

This one bowl recipe comes together in minutes!

  1. Use a hand blender to blend the cream cheese, sour cream, salsa, and seasonings until fluffy.
  2. Add in the onion and jalapeños. (as directed below).
  3. Chill for one hour before serving.

For the hot dip, heat all the ingredients in a small saucepan until smooth and creamy.

Spoon the cream cheese salsa into a bowl with the tortilla chips on the bottom.

Serving and reheating

  • If time allows, prepare it a day in advance if possible to allow the flavors to blend.
  • Serve with your favorite dippers like tortilla chips or fresh vegetables.
  • Refrigerate leftovers in a tightly covered container for up to a week. Freezing is not recommended.

  • In a medium bowl, mix the cream cheese, sour cream, taco seasoning, and salsa with a hand mixer until fluffy.

  • Stir in the cheddar, green onions, and optional jalapeños.

  • Refrigerate 1 hour before serving.

Using a hand mixer adds air to the dip and makes it easier to scoop.
Cream cheese can be softened in the microwave. Remove the foil wrapper and place in a bowl. Microwave on 60% power for 30-40 seconds. Check if it is soft and if not add another 15 seconds.
Use any type of salsa, from mild to hot, even homemade salsa works in this recipe.
This recipe lends itself well to mixing with jalapeños, black olives, diced tomatoes, red onions, or red onions.
