Ingredients for Slow Cooker Green Bean Casserole

Green Beans: Use frozen or canned (and dried) green beans. If using fresh green beans, blanch them for 4 minutes and cool in ice water.

Sauce: Condensed cream of mushroom soup makes this dish super easy, but you can use any 'cream of soup' like celery, potato or chicken.

Topping: Crispy fried onions add a little salty crunch to this recipe, but you can also sprinkle on some breadcrumbs or crumbled pork rinds for a lower-carb dish.

Variations: We love adding cooked and crumbled bacon or a handful of shredded cheddar cheese for extra flavor!

How to make Crock Pot Green Bean Casserole

This recipe only requires five ingredients!

  1. Prepare the green beans. (According to the recipe below).
  2. Add the rest of the ingredients, reserving 1 cup of the fried onion.
  3. Cook with remaining pan fried french fried onions.
  4. Sprinkle the French-fried onions over the green bean casserole before serving.

Prepare everything except the fried onions up to a day in advance and add to the crock pot when ready to cook.

Storing leftovers

Store leftovers, covered, in the refrigerator for up to 4 days and reheat on the stove or in the microwave.

Freezer friendly? Of course! Just keep it in a freezer-safe container for 2-3 months and thaw it overnight in the fridge. Reheat in the oven and top with additional French-fried onions before serving.

Healthy, colorful, and full of flavor, this Crock Pot Green Bean Casserole is the perfect side dish for any occasion.

  • Combine the thawed green beans with the soup, milk, soy sauce, pepper, seasoning salt, and 2 cups of the crispy onions in a 6-qt slow cooker.

  • Simmer on low for 2½ to 3 hours or until the beans are tender.

  • Once cooked, heat the slow cooker.

  • In a dry non-stick skillet, pan-fry the remaining crispy fried onions over medium heat, stirring frequently, until lightly toasted.

  • Sprinkle fried onions on top before serving.

In place of the frozen beans, you can use 4 cans (14½ ounces each) of dried beans.
Optional additions:

  • 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese (favorite!)
  • Sauteed mushrooms, onions, garlic, and/or shallots
