What You Need to Roast Asparagus

insulating white – If possible, choose medium to thick spears. Make sure they are firm dark green stalks with light green or purple tips.

spices – I love the flavor of asparagus so I kept this recipe simple with olive oil, garlic, salt and pepper and parmesan cheese! You can add other herbs and/or spices to taste – favorites include lemon zest (or lemon juice) or a drizzle of balsamic vinegar.

How to make Roasted Asparagus

Roasted asparagus is an easy, beautiful appetizer or side dish that's ready in less than 15 minutes!

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (As directed below).
  2. Prepare the asparagus and place in a single layer on a pan and toss with oil, salt and pepper.
  3. Saute the asparagus until soft and crisp.
  • Thin spears: 5-7 minutes
  • Coarse spears: 9-12 minutes

Tips for Roasting Asparagus

  • Bend the spear downward, and it will naturally break on the wooden ends.
  • Line the pan with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
  • Asparagus cooks quickly so check it early.
  • If you're feeling fancy, drizzle with truffle oil or garnish with fresh herbs like fresh parsley or finely chopped basil.

Store leftovers in an airtight container for salads or sides for up to 5 days.

Roasted Asparagus

These asparagus spears are tossed in oil, cooked, and roasted until perfectly tender!

Preparation time 5 minutes

Cooking time 10 minutes

Full time 15 minutes

  • Preheat oven to 425°F.

  • Rinse the asparagus, pat dry with a kitchen towel, and snap off the woody stems.

  • Place the asparagus on a rimmed baking sheet and drizzle with olive oil. Add garlic, salt, pepper, and Parmesan cheese, if using. Toss well to coat.

  • Sauté asparagus for 6 to 12 minutes or until just tender-crisp.

Thin spears will take about 6 minutes, while thick spears will take about 12 minutes.
Try one of the following variations: Brown butter, a squeeze lemon or excitement, Hollandaise Sauce to serve, or béarnaise sauce.

  • Make sure the oven is preheated to get the best caramelization.
  • If possible, choose thick stalks of asparagus, they caramelize without overcooking.
